Frequently asked questions for PDB2Maya

  • Why do we require donation for Premium models?
Creating the software for generating these models has taken us significant effort and considerable time. Generating three types of models for over 55,000 PDB files, checking the input PDB files and output maya models for errors, and making them available for download requires elaborate setup, patience and non-trivial effort. We have generously made the Standard and Basic models freely downloadable. Your contributions will help us to offset the monetary costs associated with this work.
  • Can you subsidize the Maya models for non-profit research and education organizations?
Yes, however this is only applicable for organizations making bulk request and not for individuals.
  • Can you convert my PDB file to Maya scene?
Yes, although you'll need to ensure that your PDB file is correctly formatted as per PDB file format specification and make $25 contribution.
  • I need specific help with Maya, can you help me?
We could provide consulting. However, if you are looking for free help we recommend posting your queries on Creative Crash (formerly Highend3D.com) or CG Society forums.
  • Why don't you provide a MEL Script to convert PDB files to Maya?
Through our experience we have determined that MEL scripts are not suitable for generating these models. For moderate and large PDB files the MEL script will either freeze Maya or worse yet hang the computer. MEL is not the right tool for this job.
  • How did you create these Maya models from PDB files?
We have written a set of software tools which parses PDB files and generates the native Maya files. In other words we do not use Maya to create these models.
