Follow these steps or view the demo movie
- Download and unzip the corresponding maya scene by searching for PDB ID or a keyword or download the model samples
- Download customization MEL script and unzip it
- Start Maya then go to File>Open>Browse and select the maya scene file say 108d_premium.ma at download location
- Press key f on keyboard to center the model in the viewport
- (Optional) Turn on smooth shading by going to View>Smooth Shade All in the viewport panel
- Open Script Editor in Maya by going to Windows>General Editors>Script Editor
- Source MEL script in Script Editor by going to File>Source file>Browse to pdbSceneModify.mel at download location. This would launch a window with controls for customization
- Change parameters as desired on the customization user interface or through regular maya operations
- (Optional) Tweak shader settings in hypershade. Each Element has its own shader
- (Optional) To replace a shader for an element. Create a new shader. Open "Outliner" panel, then scroll down and expand "elements" group, then select an element say Carbon. Now in "Hypershade" select the newly created shader and apply it to selected element. Note: The "elements" group is hidden by default so you wont be able to see the individual elements in the viewport.
- (Optional) Save maya scene in binary (.mb) format for better performance during load/save
